The meaning of spirituality goes beyond any specific practice. A broad concept, spirituality accommodates many perspectives. It is a universal human experience that entails a sense of connection to something greater than ourselves.

The path of spirituality that a person chooses mostly has to do with a deep desire to search for the meaning of life. Spirituality is something sacred an innate sense of interconnectedness. Just like a persons sense of purpose, the definition of spirituality may vary throughout her life. It tends to adapt to an individuals relationships and experiences. It, therefore, doesnt come as a surprise that spirituality and female libido have a link.

Female libido its presence and absence have been associated with a whole lot of factors ranging from hormones to lifestyle habits, diet, and stress levels among many other things. Specifically, the general wellbeing of a woman is a huge determinant of her sex drive. Could this have anything to do with her spirituality? Well, lets find that out.

A research study performed at the University of Kentucky established a link between the spirituality of a woman and her sex drive. Jessica Burris, the researcher, utilized a research measure known as the Spiritual Transcendence Scale. Jessica argues that, for the longest time, human beings have always known the crucial role that spiritual and religious issues play in their daily lives.

Unfortunately, research literatures only pay attention to religiousness, and ignore the other unique traits of spirituality such as universality, connectedness, and fulfillment of prayer. The connectedness aspect is associated with the reason why women engaged in multiple sexual escapades with different partners and in many instances, without protection.

The study by Jessica Burris and others involved 353 university students 61% were women. The respondents were requested to fill a questionnaire about their religious and spiritual perceptions, impulsivity, alcohol use and their sexual practices.

On the topic of spirituality, the respondents were required to identify phrases that matched their spiritual perceptions. The findings were quite impressive. For instance, the male respondents who claimed to be spiritual said that they were not affected sexually and also confirmed to experience decreased sexual encounters. The researchers interpreted this to mean that men do not relate spirituality to sex. Biologically, men do not perceive sex as a ticket to emotional intimacy.

On the other hand, the responses of the female respondents revealed an entirely different thing. For them, spirituality came out as the biggest predictor of how often they engage in sex, the number of sexual partners, as well as the failure to indulge in safe sex.

These revelations seem to agree with the insights appearing in the Journal of Sexual Medicine, according to Life Science. Apparently, the sexually discontented women who practiced yoga and the Eastern mindfulness techniques reported enhanced levels of sexual arousal, libido, and more intensified orgasms. For many years, Eastern practices have been said to offer sexual benefits to the faithful adopters. These techniques are said to have originated from the Kama Sutra of the 4th and 6th centuries.

Based on these findings, if your libido has been taking a dip, you may want to look deep into your spirituality. Who knows? You might have neglected your spirituality and need to get your act together! However, while at it, do not forget that there is a whole bunch of other things that you can do to restore or improve your sex drive.
